Smurfs Concept art Signed by Andy Gaskill

I got to work with a lot of great people on "Smurfs: A Christmas Carol." One day while the guys from Sony were at DUCK for their weekly visit, Andy Gaskill was looking through a Smurf's book that I had on my shelf. When he got to this page he stopped and surprised said "Hey, I made that-" So I made him autograph it for me. Good times!

The Golden Poo Christmas Card

This is a sketch for the Christmas card that I made for all the people that have come into my work area and have been amazed at Zhou Lei's drawing.
A while back I received a letter drawings from Zhou Lei (one of the boys that my wife and I sponsor in China.) It is a very curious depiction of what appears to be golden poo. I have tried to interpret it many ways and it doesn't seem to make sense however I see it. There are so many questions. If it IS poo, why yellow? If it IS NOT poo why are there stink lines coming out of it? If it is poo why is it being worn as a hat? If it IS NOT poo why are there people straddling it as if taking a dump? If IS poo why are all the people in the poo factory looking so happy? Whether or not it is poo why are people protesting? And what do the arrows and "X's" on their signs mean? It looks as though one guy is dropping poo on the other guy picketing... Amazing.

This is my first work-in-progress of my latest modo model. I still need to model the innards and fix some of the UV's on the textured version... but I'd say its coming along nicely. My wife is having a hard time getting me away from the computer at the moment...

I bought the book "How to Get a Gorilla Out of Your Bathtub" (written by John Hall and illustrated by Stephen Gilpin) for my wife a couple years back.

I love Stephen Gilpin's Illustrations, so I decided to take a page from the book and create a 3D rendering of it. So here is the page I am going to be re-creating using Modo and Z-Brush.

Here is a picture of the beginning stages of the doll house. I used an old trunk that I found from the thrift store.
There were a few minor changes to the exterior after this point, but this is basically it.

Emily's Grandma Edi sent us some pictures from her disposable camera that she had when we went to visit her. I think these are the only surviving photos from our Europe trip. The set of four were taken at Lake Como at the prestigious VILLA D'ESTE. The two above were taken in front of the castle in Milan.

Unfortunately while Emily and I were painting in Florence (at the bridge above) our digital camera including all of the pictures from our trip was stolen. SO- the ONLY documentation of our trip are the watercolor paintings that we finished. I picked some of my favorite to post on the blog.

This was painted in a small alley-way in Florence.
Emily's Grandma Edi took us to beautiful Lake Como.
In Florence, shortly after we'd made the police report concerning our stolen backpack and camera, we went to the palace gardens.
After Florence we traveled to Venice. Ah, Venice the city on the water. This painting was before high tide. Once the water started to rise it started to flood the first floor. I realize the arches on my windows suck... but we were rushing to paint before our train to Milan.
This is a small corner in Venice. I found the stereotypical landscapes all to be a bit overwhelming and decided to stick with smaller sections that I felt I could capture.
